MTN Prepaid queries

I’ve an older MTN E220 HSDPA modem from a contract which ended about a year ago.

As I’m now on ADSL and will be away for a while, I intend getting a prepaid SIM and converting airtime to a bundle, initially using either :

75MB @ R49 , or
300MB @ R149 , primarily to check on e-mail & access a few local sites, so it'll entail minimal use.

A few queries I have are :

1.) Spoke to PEP and they say they don’t sell airtime in those denominations, so must I only buy
R49 or R149 worth from MTN, or can I buy other denominations from PEP / Pick ‘n Pay making up those totals ?

2.) If I buy a SIM tomorrow (know about the RICA story), does loading airtime / bundles on PREPAID work from one calendar month to the next (which would mean expiry would be end of August), or will I have 60-days from tomorrow meaning expiry date would be ‘round 27 September ?

3.) I don’t even need to run the service at 3.6 Mbps (though I know the modem’s capable of doing so) – is there any way, though, of setting modem to run at either 512 Kbps or 1 Meg … I used to have it set to 240 Kbps while on contract (GPRS/EDGE only) as it would drop the connection often where I was in JHB at the time, on 3G (which I think ran at 3.6 Mbps). What settings would I select for 512 / 1Meg equivalent, if at all possible ?

(I know where to go to within the Login Window already, but simply need to know what to select, as I’ve not had MTN for the last year, so there might’ve been changes).

Any other useful info. you might have concerning MTN prepaid, these days, will also be appreciated.

I use mtn data and you can buy airtime anywere can just convert it into data bundles by dailing 141

R30 + R10 x 2 = R50 = R49.
MTN bundles last 60 days.
Connect with either HSDPA, 3G, EDGE/GPRS, with MDMA.
