So, as it stands there looks like 2 options for roaming internationally on MTN prepaid. I'm curious about 2 countries - the USA and UAE. I'll have a local sim in both countries, this is so that I can get connectivity on my current MTN number.
Option one is SMS roaming. That is where you can just use SMS. Outgoing is R2.75 and incoming is free. This seems to work anywhere in the world
Option two is roaming, where you get voice and SMS. That is enabled by default it seems, where you pay for sending and receiving SMS. This is limited to certain networks and countries only that are partnered with MTN.
Ideally I want to use option two, since I get sms and voice if needed. But the MTN site is crap, and I don't know if either of these countries support option two on prepaid.
You also can't swop over to option one once you leave the country as it needs to be enabled here it seems before you go.
