So I call 173 and get a message that I have exceed my monthly limit for calling their call centre and get referred to a VAS rated number. I have not called MTN in over 3 months.

On top of this every second try to make an outgoing call on the number fails and requires I restart the phone. Rinse and repeat, this has been going on for a long time. So I eventually get through to MTN only to be told that the SIM may have some fault and I must go buy a new SIM and do a swap. At my own expense. Honestly:mad:? The only thing I'm swapping is MTN for another network, not any SIM.

What's maddening is the call centre parrot insisting the problem must with my handset. My phone has two sim slots and just to check I swapped the sims in the slots and the problem continues while I have no issues making outgoing calls on the backup sim.

Hi

I suggest you try and test the sim in another handset, this will eliminate the handset issue if the problem moves to the new handset.

Thanks

My second handset uses a nano SIM. By the way, during the call to MTN yesterday they "refreshed" the line and I have not had problems making calls since then. My logical mind says it can't be handset as I have another SIM in there and it does not exhibit MTN's symptoms.
