MTN Steppa 2 revealed

Vodafone has a 4" phone with a very similar spec for R900 ... MTN will HAVE to beat that price

They would only have to match it to be more appealing.

Qualcomm chipsets are usually snappier than equivalent Mediatek chipsets, the Steppa 2 also has a front camera, and a supposedly better rear camera as well. There are also a couple of other things that make the Steppa 2 a better choice in the same price category.

My understanding is that both the Vodacom Kicka and MTN Steppa are Wi-Fi capable, even though it may not be stated.

There is a double irony in this: Wireless operators shoot themselves in both feet.

I would have assumed operators would disable Wi-Fi for now on their own devices, unless and until they. had carrier Wi-Fi offload already implemented, to avoid revenue leakage from the low end of the market, which is particularly sensitive to pricing

Based on specs, I predict that this phone will cost around R999. Let's see if I'm right. ;)

Think that will defeat the purpose of the phone, I predict it will be between R700 and R800.
If this phone is to replace the normal Steppa, it might even be cheaper....

Well with the exhorbitant, profiteering prices they charge for data, they are not going to sell any devices, if those devices do not have Wi-Fi ability ... , especially when there are so many points of access, so they sell the devices with Wi-Fi ability, and make a profit on them, or their customers will buy their devices elsewhere ... , simple, people vote with their wallet, ...

This could make for a very good backup toy phone, where you don't have to completely get disconnected from your normal life when you drop that 5incher one day
