Once again I've been swindled out of R20 worth of airtime by these *** WASPs. Just to make it clear, I don't use WAP or internet from my phone, nor do I send SMSs to any of these short code numbers, so there is no way I could have accidentally subscribed to this service. MTN put the blame completely on the WASP and the client, but I believe it is MTN's responsibility and they should provide a way to block WASP services. But no, they won't do that, cause they make just as much money from these WASP scams.
Since I did not want to waste calls and my time trying to deactivate this WASP (last time it cost me R40 in airtime in total), I decided to give 8ta a try. So this is my experience so far.
Went to our local Telkom shop. Usually I have endless problems with this proof of address thing, since I'm staying on a farm, however they excepted the documents I had with no problem. To my surprise the starter pack was free.
However, I was VERY DISGUSTED when I inserted the sim and found that the display still showed "MTN zone 20%10%"
Something else that are generally not mentioned is that 8ta has moved many years back to the old window system and that for a R5 recharge 30days get added to the window and for R10 recharge 60 days get added, etc.
I like the idea of receiving free minutes for incoming calls, so I'm going to give 8ta a chance and if I like the service I might even start giving my new 8ta number as my business number.
Anyway, whether I stay with 8ta or not, one thing is for sure, MTN will not get one single cent from me ever again!!!
