Whats with the R50-R120 extra :wtf: you have to pay monthly for a Top Up contract this is extortion just to prevent bill shock. They are making between R1200-R2880 over an above the monthly prices this just to secure additional revenue.

At Nashua Mobile the S4 Mini on a open line is R269 x 24 Mths on the Anytime 200 + extra 150 MB
They offered my dad the same phone on the MTN Anytime Topup 200/Off-Peak Topup 200 R389 x 24 Mths + 75 MB

The 1st deal is ok but the 2nd one is just ridiculous.

That sounds a bit off hey. Maybe check the contracts with got 2x S3's on Anytime TopUp 200 contracts (also R200 + 150mb) and the open line at the time would have been about a R20-30 difference.

Check page 7 of the following PDF - it's for September, but should give you an idea. I don't think this is a TopUp, but even the Anytime 350 is R399 per month.

I don't understand the shock?

It's because people on top ups spend less so the networks have less cash to put into the phone subsidy. With an open contract they can work with projections and as such offer a bigger discount hence it can cheaper.

So it's not the topup is more expensive, it's that open is cheaper.

They also apply this rule to sim only deals to
