MTN Unrestricted APN

Lol, in the times of uncapped adsl... People still looking for the dirtiest and slowest Internet fix.... I think you will have more luck cracking a crapberry.

I think you need to phone 808 and request permission to use the Unrestricted APN. Which needs to be activated with your SIM Card Number. Not Sure, but please let us know if you found out anything regarding this.

Yes, just go in-store and request this to be activated on your Sim.
Once that is done, maximum 48hours, they will given you the APN settings that you will have to manually create on your device...

You need a relatively valid reason for requesting this though, as they don't easily give this out.
IT support reasons and router fail over are accepted.

I requested and was configured and running within a day, was lucky I guess.

I phoned the 808 number took me about 30 min before someone eventually took the call and helped me. I spoke to a person who then said they activated it and they gave me the APN: MTNAPN. They also told me it can take up to 48 Hours. Its almost 24 hours and still not connected. I didn't receive any sms for the APN settings.

Waiting now for it to go live so I can test VPN.

Its a nightmare getting access to the Unrestricted MTN APN!!! I have been struggling since Friday!! Most of the customer care REPS don't even know what the hell it is!

Any luck?

I'm currently making use of TeamViewer (similar to RealVNC) for remote access.

Yes, it works on MTN, as it doesn't make use of IPs, but username and password which is authenticated and router through their server (if I'm not mistaken). Also, no portforwarding is required and the personal edition is free :D

But, I'd still prefer to use dyndns...

Will this help me ??

On the road my phone sends mail via MTN perfectly but when I get home to my Mweb ADSL I cannot send mail??

My setting is MTN-WAP-GPRS.
MTN MMS IS NOT TICKED

Went into MTN who were not too clued up.

My network mode setting is WCDMA/GSM Auto connect.

Where to from here ?

ps It worked for 3 years then stopped 3 months ago!!

Mweb. Email is @iafrica.com.

They phoned this evening and were most helpful explaining why my phone worked for so many years until MTN swopped APN lately to avoid spam.

Wished me luck getting an unrestricted APN so I can use my phone for mail at home without first having to switch off Mweb ADSL.

Mweb. Email is @iafrica.com.
For unauthenticated (no username or password) SMTP you should be using the SMTP server of the network you are currently using.
i.e. while you are away from home you should use MTN's SMTP, while you are at home on wifi you should use MWEB's SMTP.

Many email providers have started switching to authenticated SMTP (you must provide a username and password to send mail).
With authenticated SMTP, you use your email provider's SMTP server no matter whether you are on MTN or MWEB.

Thanks but that means I have to change the settings on my phone whenever I get home?
Used to work seamlessly.
