Yesterday the 01/11/2012 I sent an sms request on MTN's 30630 number to check when I can upgrade, I received a reply that I can now upgrade my contract so I went to their Pavillion store, filled out all the froms, did a sim swap which I had to PAY for to get a micro Sim and then get told I cant upgrade because the system says I'm not due to yet!!! What is going on MTN ?? Why Let me go through the entire process without first checking properly and why does your system say I can upgrade but your store says I cant!!

That's a sign, run away from eMpTyN

Happened to me plenty of times.sms says I can upgrade ,but when I phone 808,I'm told I don't qualify for an upgrade yet. Their system is off somewhere.

Dude please just leave MTN asap. Do yourself a favour. You will save money and then you can get your kids a nice Christmas present

Hahahaha , I usually dont have any issues with them , this is the first. I like their Topup contract so would like to stick with it. What network are you on AlmightyBender?

On Cell C. Also on top up, but I pay 99c per minute with per second billing. And 15c per MB for data. It is awesome. Contract is for R30 per month and I spend about R10 a month extra. That includes phone calls and data.

That makes me so sad :( feel like kicking myself for upgrading my vodacom contract last month :(

A clear example how bad service still get's supported. I would just go to another company.

Thats pretty awesome rates, will have a look at cell c but their reception isnt that great in my area, even with vodacom I had bad reception.

Ai I'm sorry to hear that! :(

Maybe try getting a prepaid sim from Cell C and try it out to see if they have improved coverage in your area recently.
Otherwise I would suggest that if possible you try be patient (I know it's hard!!) and let your contract expire. Then you will be on a month-to-month contract and have the flexibility to change when things improve. There is so much change happening in the mobile market at the moment and the last thing you want to do is to be locked into another two year contract.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Almighty, sounds like a plan :)

I'm Still annoyed i cant upgrade though, maybe will look at taking a Cellc contract.

CellC all the way. At least they try to soften the screwing process.

This is the useless response i received from MTN...

Thank you for taking time to raise your concerns with MTN.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and assure you that it is not our intention to displease you.

Please note that as per the business rules MTN has reinforced the terms and conditions for early upgrades as outlined in the CPA which allows for the contract to be renewed only on the 21st month and anything only.

Thank you
Wenzile Masina

Does anybody know if this is true? is it a CPA rule?
