I got a sms from MTN SP three weeks ago to say that I qualify for an upgrade on my contract. I phoned 808 to check and the system voice confirmed. Excellent timing, I thought since my BB seems to be dying. I went to the local MTN shop and they tell me that the policy changed last week and I can only upgrade after 23 months. (it was 20 months before). I phoned 808 again and got to speak to a human this time and she said it is now after 21 months. So, now which is it?

I also wanted to downgrade my contract to a lower price plan as I am not making as many calls as I used to, but neither the shop nor 808 could tell me what my real spend was over the last few months.

I was a loyal MTN contract customer for the past 15 years, but I don't get the idea that they have any amount of appreciation for that. So, if there is a MTN rep here, I challenge you to contact me and persuade me to stay with MTN.

I had the same type of problem with MTN and also the fact that they have Contact Form on their websites but never contact you.

Then took to Twitter and problems got sorted within 24 hours. Amazing hey.

So my advice to you would be to Tweet @MTNzaService and shortly tell them you are unhappy. They will then ask your contact details via DM (Private Message) and sort out the problem.

I'm still porting my number to Cell C at the end of next month though.

You can upgrade after 21 months if your new contract is the same as your current one or a more expensive contract.

You can only downgrade after 23 months, take out a contract which is cheaper than your current one.

i was going to say I can upgrade after 20 or 21 months. i got my contract mid June and can upgrade from 1 Feb 20.5 months later

Upgrades can be done in the 21st month, it used to be the 20th, I just upgraded yesterday:)
