I renewed my contract 4 months early, in May, with MTN, as they the only idiots who had Iphone stock.

I have a contract stating that my bill would be R 558 all inclusive.

I see I am now getting charged two 'promo' fees, they are actaully the pay-ins.

My old fone had a pay-in as did the iphone.

i queried this last month and was told that this month(may) would be the last, lo and behold, it the same in June.

Do i have any re-course, and do i have to just continue to pay in for the next 4 months ?

Strange, I paid my BB promo fee for 24 months and my early contract renewal only started after that.

then they could possibly charge you both until then :(

sadly you did sign /agreeing to both pay-ins. You still have to complete the old contract.

Keep all you papers & monitor their debits/bills. Make sure that contract1 stops at the right time, then contract2 in about 2 years( minus months already gone.

Do note that they can keep you on this contract til sept , 2 years from now. You did sign 24months, then 24 again. But they may only take 24 of your pay-ins for each.

Legally, I can't do much, but it inept/deceitful/incompetant customer service to inform me of a certain price, give me a for certain price, but then charge me anonther.

I even queried this and was told it was for one month only.

MTN has definetly lost me as a customer.

The others may have thier faults, but at least they not MTN.

I thought the consumer protection act was supposed to put an end to hidden charges. cant you report them for this?

I'm sure in the piles of fine print I signed that I am liable for any fees outstanding. Will check the contract tonight, I'm sure it is there.

Hmm, I checked my old payments. I paid the old contract for 24 months and only after the original 24 months did I get charged for my upgrade.

well i am with MTN and i had to pay that last 4 months upfront before they would even consider processing my upgrade... that SUCKED... but i got my Iphone in October and i am EXTREMELY happy..

but thats the thing. They are not allowed to hide details in the fine print. They are supposed to be up front with every charge, and it is their responsibility to make sure that you understand exactly what you are signing. It is meant to protect the illiterate and thousands of uneducated citizens that fall prey to this kind of thing every year
