I've been a Vodacom subscriber since 2001, but MTN have a much better deal on the HTC Desire currently.

I really, really don't want to change, but I'm seriously considering it. I've been happy with Vodacom, so I've never really paid attention to what MTN are doing.

Does anyone have any thoughts regarding their 3g coverage, billing and general service?

3G coverage - fair
Billing - the biggest mistake since Windows Me
General service - its more pleasant standing in a queue at Home Affairs!
Dont even try to port! They will mess that up also!

Damn, not very reassuring at all :D

If you have to go MTN- use prepaid or Top Up , Then at least they can’t mess you bill up.
Also... DONT PORT! I’m having legal battles with them now because of their incompetence!

The other side of the coin: Vodacom suck and are overpriced. MTN service is EXACTLY the same as Vodacom (anyone who tells you one is better than the other is a liar). I've experienced the worst most incompetent service from Vodacom. 3G networks are the same. You'll have problems whoever you're with so you might as well go for the cheaper option.

I've used MTN and I can tell you that in terms of network coverage they lag behind Vodacom. 3G coverage is better on Vodacom though you will find that in some areas the two networks are on par but overall Vodacom is better. Vodacom is indeed expensive in their contract deals compared to MTN. I think Voda are also better in their service overall.

As a matter of fact, I left MTN for poor network coverage coupled with appalling service.

MTN = double billing, piss poor service and brain dead accounts people. Incompetence head to toe actually.
