MTN vs Vodacom

amen :o

we're probably all at different levels of understanding about how mobile communication actually works, but one thing i don't understand is, if it's just a software upgrade, what's stopping them from upgrading all the towers to HSDPA today?

Well I stand to be corrected about it being a mere software upgrade but I am guessing that they may need to send someone to the tower to do the upgrade.

Perhaps there is something else we are not aware of.

EDIT: Just searched now and according to vodacom3g it is only a software upgrade

As this is an MTN vs Vodacom thread; my comments.

I recently went over to Vodacom despite the hassle of having to change my number. My two main reasons were

1. No support on MyADSL from MTN (compare this to the support V3G gives on the other forum.)

2. The fact that in the Western Cape they only have one service centre, at Canal Walk. The staff in all the other MTN centres are not only completely clueless about everything baring selling cellphones (on commision no doubt) but they also have no power to cut deals.
Vodacom on the other hand has well staffed service centres at every large mall, they are clued up about GPRS/software problems etc, and can organise deals and sort out most hassles.

Having moved over I am much happier with my data coverage/data speeds, and not having to deal with all that vibrant yellow anymore.

As a prepaid user for me MTN rules

I was emptying my wallet every couple of days for a data bundle on Vodacom, now my bundle ussually lasts the whole month...

As for speed, I could get a faster connection (70kbps) on vodacom only by moving my aerial around... It was pretty much hit and miss.

MTN has connected only at 45kbps since I started using it, although the signal strenth is strong.

That is GPRS... no 3G or Edge in the sticks

( i have been begging MTN for over a year (as far as i remember )on this forum for EDGE....gave only GPRS...i asked Vodacom for 3g, and got it the same week....check the forums...and now they have given us HSDPA ( +the free swapout on our cards from 3g to HSDPA )

AND THE WINNER IS.....VODACOM, the leading cellular & broadband provider
