How would I go about checking the remainder of the warranty on a phone that I purchased secondhand? I went in to an MTN direct store and they couldn't help me they said I needed to go to the original store I purchased it from........ Surely not?!?

The store AFAIK is in Joburg but it is impossible for me to trace where it was from... Can anyone help?

With Vodacom SP, you give us the IMEI, we enter it on our system and it spits out talk time on that handset, when it went live on the network blacklisted or not, and how many months it has left of the warranty. Any Vodashop/4U shop can do this. I am surprised MTN does not have a similar system.

Surely they can check the IMEI somewhere?

Warranties are done at branch level so you have to go back to the same branch that it was bought from.. Even though the phones are repaired by MTN (or manufacturer) it still has to go through the MTN store that sold the phone.. The Stores are owned by private individuals/businesses and not MTN SP or MTN Pty Ltd...

Each store runs their own accounting software and therefore cannot check the warranty status if it was purchased at another store..

**PS.. I do not work for MTN or MTN SP...

Surely not... what if the phone moves to DBN from JHB???

They might also have an online system similar to vodacom, but I know that some stores use software per branch to track warranties..

If that's the case than MTN are WAY behind time man. Come on, we're living in times when everything can be tracked online, you can even see your backyard on the internet. MTN's systems are pure rubbish, from their billing to warranty checks, and they seriously need to wake up and realise that everyone had enough of their bull***t.

(PS: MTN, you still owe me money, for the last 10 months now, because of your crap systems)

Am surprised that MTN still does not offer this system.

I bought a handset a while back and have lost the Box (pop was inside it). Even though I know which branch this handset was obtained from, they cant look up my warranty.

Any MTN reps here? Surely there must be a way to check the warranty without a piece of paper.
