MTN whats happening ???

what the hell is happening to MTN's coverage ?!? i havent been able to log onto mxit for 6 months ! i thought it was something i did to my password or something wrong with my phone! last night i popped my VIRGIN sim card in and by chance decided to launch mxit ...it connected 1st time! i was amazed ! i had been thinking all this time it was my password that was incorrect and it wasn't! MTN your service over the last few months have really been shocking ! whats going on ? i'm now using my VIRGIN pre-paid sim more than im using my MTN contract one! their coverage is slighty better and always connects unlike MTN... i've been a customer with you guys for nearly 6 years now but if your service doesn't improve then VIRGIN or VODACOM will be my next service provider !
 
Javs, You kinda get used to the dodgy data coverage from mtn. Well at least I did
 
Check that your phone's WAP/GPRS settings are correct.
You should be able to type *123# <send/dial> to have the correct settings sent to your phone.

you know it was actually kinda good about a year back, they started going downhill in about the last 6 months or so, i've been with them for 6 years.
As for the settings ...it's perfect..i always get that incorrect settings or password message from mtn...but i know it's incorrect because im still able to connect to the web etc...and when i use my virgin sim it works great (other than no 3g) the problem is with MTN ...there coverage has slacked alot recently...anyways im happy with the virgin sim so gonna use that for browsing and downloading from now on..it's cheaper as well :)
 
ya i also have problems with mtn on the net.... i was on prepaid bout two years ago and never had any problems. was a loyal customer for more years than i can count. ever since i got my first phone i been with them. back when the slogan was "MTN.. the better connection" but now like you say the last 6 months i have had endless problems with there internet services. and i have started using a Vodacom prepaid Sim to use mxit. i really hope that they will fix these issues. or i may consider switching networks permanently.
 
I have had a MTN contract for over a year now, And I have to say it is the worst service I have recieved in my life, I often phone people and 3 seconds into the phone call I get disconnected with a number busy error message, Very often I cannot phone anyone as I just get network busy error messages, I get a 100 free minutes a month, these are not a cap, merely a challenge as I have NEVER come close to using even half the minutes.

Numerous complaints to MTN are ignored, I have emailed there customer care division and get no repsonse as well, Despite the fact that They offer better contracts with nice phones cheaper than vodacom, I will not renew any services with MTN ever again.

Disgusting Service.
 
3G Coverage around Gauteng for MTN is poor. At my house I have partial 3G coverage, it's switching between EDGE and 3G all the time. But when I was with Vodacom, I have 3G all the time (This is around Rosebank we are talking about in JHB.

Wanted to try out video call with my friend as he got a Xperial with MTN, according to him at the PWC office at Sunninghill, 3G coverage is also not great.
 
Well, I can also state that I'm doing this on 3G signal in Sandton City.
That HSDPA 7.2 Mb is just a marketing ploy.

Yes, MTN don't even have coverage in the Ster-Kinekor in Sandton City. And I think the signal is also very poor in the Stuttaford.

I will not expect this from MTN in a high class shopping mall.

I hate when people play with their phones in the cinema... actually spent a night in the police station coz i re-arranged a guy's face with his own phone after taking 7 calls during a movie...

So you people assume when I complain about poor signal in cinema, I am one of those people in the cinema?

Assuming something just makes an ASS out of U & ME, remeber this. And please use your brains next time and don't be rude to other forumites before you get the fact.

If you never look at your screen when you switch your phone off/silent profile. Then you can just ignore my previous comments.

I don't think it's mtns fault. A few cinemas have been installing and testing equipment to block cell phone signals in the movie house.

Can't wait - I actually had some idiot start chatting on his phone next to me in the cinema during a movie - I lost my cool, and told him where the phone is going if he doesn't hangup. He hungup.
