Hi All,

Does anyone here have the same issue as I'm having with MTN?

I'm reaching the end of my contract which is the Anytime 350 with a BB8900 device. Most months my airtime rolls over to the point where I'm sitting with around R1500's worth of airtime. I approached MTN and asked them what happens if I downgrade to the Anytime 200 or 100 for that matter? According to them, they unable to transfer the airtime to the new package so effectively I'll loose it. So I asked them what would happen if I go on PAYG and end the contract, again ... I'll loose the airtime. Like WTF ... I paid for the airtime, why should I loose it. A while ago, on a Cell C contract, they (Cell C) were happy to transfer the airtime from an expired contract to PAYG :wtf:. Why can't the knobs at MTN do the same. They in the process of loosing me as client! That's for bloody sure! Any feedback, would be appreciated.

Regards,
R

Phone out all your airtime and go to Cell C then. I am also on Anytime 350 but I almost always go R20 over, so this isn't a problem for me. But there are some things that MTN is really bad at.

Exactly what I'm planning on doing, thing is .... I want what's rightfully mine, my airtime!

Never had a contract so forgive me if I'm horribly wrong here :p But can't contract users just do a *111# (Vodacom) and manually transfer airtime?

Thanks Catweasel, I have the time .... (",) effort's another story lol

You can't transfer anytime airtime with MTN. When I was on vodacom I could transfer it.

If you think of it in terms of a contract. Once a contract expires, everything within that contract expires as well. You renew a contract, new terms are given and agreed upon and the new terms are rolled out, leaving the old behind. It is not nice to have that airtime disappear and it would be nice for MTN to carry it over, but they are not obligated to do so. I have a feeling you would have the same problem on Vodacom and I am surprised that Cell C helped with that regard (perhaps they won't anymore either).

I also went from an Anytime350 to Anytime200 when I last renewed my contract. The guy at the MTN shop told me I could have up to 5 months credit carried over to my new contract, i.e. 5 x R200 = R1000, which was just about the credit I had. Come next month however and my R1000 had just disappeared :( So MTN can kiss my @ss when my contract ends.

You can't transfer any of the "inclusive" airtime. Even if your balance is R300, if you transfer airtime it will be deemed an additional purchase on top of your existing contract and you will get billed for it.

But yes, I agree. It is totally unfair that you lose your airtime when downgrading. Back in the days when MyCall contracts became Anytime, they transferred your unused minutes over into Anytime Rands when you signed a new contract. Guess they became greedy.

You can transfer loyalty points at no charge, but you can only transfer in 500 point increments.

Thanks. I'm upgrading in a couple of weeks and I've been saving my points for a big data purchase to use on my new phone.

Yep, I also was robbed of my remaining airtime and data upon upgrading my MTN contract.

I was told that it would be carried over but no it just disappeared mysteriously.

I now effectively have a new contract and starting off from scratch.

Any data will only live for sixty days and if not used will be forfeited.

Even though you paid for it, MTN can still rob you of it.

I believe rob is the correct term.
