According to news 24, he was to make an important announcement tonight at 22:00? Anyone knows what it was?

10:52pm Mubarak says that he will not be leaving office immediately, as demanded by the protesters:
I will work to peaceful transition of power. Want to take country from these harsh moments - looking to backing of everyone

um. i don't think that's what the people want, el presidente.
i think the egyptian people may have a bit of a collective african hangover from the latest trend in bs power-sharing deals.

CNN is trying hard to interpret his words but battling! Apparently he transferred some powers to his deputy...

Transferring power to his deputy and then ranted on about how much he has done for Egypt and its people.
He said he will hand over power in September to an elected leader in a peaceful manner. More of the same really, main point is that he won't step down before September.
The crowd was furious about 3/4 way through his speech they kept chanting leave and waving their shoes at him. This speech was an insult to the Egyptian people.

According to CNN Breaking news on twitter, Egyptian ambassador to US says all powers have been transferred to Suleiman, and Mubarak is nothing more than a figurative head of state. (http://on.cnn.com/f9CPes)

Being Cynical...Perhaps he needs all that time to close his bank accounts in Egypt and transfer all assets to safe havens? Now will he come to SA as the youth rally claimed responsibility for the riots that lead to his downfall. ?? Such is life

Cannot afford to lose Egypt. If this comes down to shoddy preparation then I will be pissed.

Which shows you how full of nonsense NYDA is ....... how can you in one breath say you were somehow instrumental in the Egyptian uprisings ... and in the next breath you welcome its ousted leader to stay here?! Madness.

I hope he does NOT pull an Arisitide on us and come and live here.
