Correctly so as well.
Its a biatch when the mechanisms that effectively freed the liberation movements are used against themselves.
The only difference is that this time round, unlike in the bad 'ol RSA pre '94, the neighbouring states and the region as a whole have chosen to throw human rights, the will of the people, and everything else along with the kitchen sink out the window in favor of propping up a dictator, in the name of the liberation movements of the continent.

And these 'leaders' have the audacity to point fingers across the water!!!!

"Our condemnation, our isolation is because my government took the necessary measures to create conditions for equal opportunities, for decolonisation, for creating conditions in which our people could regain their lost resources," he said.
Yes, Hitler and his merry men did similar things.
Also did not see many other Zimbabwean wives spending so freely in exotic offshore destinations while the population starves, Equal, I get it. Lets get an Amandla everyone!
The equal opportunities Mugabe has brought seem somewhat deflated to what was previously on offer.

Yep, and the sanctions caused cholera too ...

I remember, back in the day, when SA still had sanctions imposed, how we suffered with massive cholera outbreaks. You all remember .... don't you? Don't you!?!

Don't tell me I'm the only one who remembers this :p

I've said this before and I'll reiterate: Imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe was a grave strategic error by the Western powers. Everybody knows that those sanctions are merely targeted at a few select individuals and as such have no real detrimental impact on the country as a whole.

What it DOES do, however, is to give Mugarbage and his cronies an easy scapegoat for blaming their systematic raping of the country's economy. This legitimises their "struggle" in the eyes of most of the populace of this continent.

What if there were no sanctions imposed against Zim? The country would have been in exactly the same self-inflicted collapse that it is right now but without giving Mugarbage the benefit of being able to blame his path of destruction on anybody but himself.

(Selective) sanctions against Zim was a very ill-conceived idea and it did the cause of the people of Zimbabwe no good.

You can't solely blame the sanctions though. Jokes aside, South Africa had a whole barrage of sanctions imposed on us during the apartheid era, and I don't recall our economy, government, judicial system, medical system or anything else for that matter, collapsing. The country happened to be doing quite fine.

The sanctions were simply a decision made to force Mugabe into seeing what he was doing wrong - they probably just didn't figure in his paranoia and stubborness - along with his blindness to the plight of his people. Sanctions would've worked if they were dealing with a rational leader; unfortunately, Mugabe is far from rational.
