Heya

For about a month now, our house has been using various ISPs (1x 30GB Imaginet, 2x3GB telkom) and have been dialling up via PPPoE.

At one point (during a LAN), we had 5 people dialled up using the same account and no problems. Suddenly last night, we get the error: "Username or password already in use".

I contacted ISP and have been told that it is absolutely impossible to PPPoE in with more than one person per account.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

Depends on the account.

http://www.axxess.co.za allow multiple simultaneous PPPOE connections per account (I forget how many)

The usual is that the account will be limited to one PPPOE session at a time...

I think you can only have one PPPoE session from one unit on a single ADSL line at any one time. Although guy's like axxess give you 4 login's, it only works from different locations. Are you using an USB or Ethernet ADSL modem?

no, you can have more than one pppoe session on a adsl line at once, i can get my own ip and my other computer can have its own ip if we both do our own authentication and the adsl is bridged to us via the routher.

cours it is also isp dependant, axxess do give 4

Well, the situation is as follows at the moment:

Router running as "Modem Only" (for now)
4 people in the house, all using the Imaginet account for online gaming (XP PPPoE "dial-up")

Until last night it all worked spankily. Now not so much. :(

Not so. Unlike analogue connectivity methods, ADSL allows users to make multiple simultaneous connections... I, for one, dial up twice using RASPPPoE on ONE PC (myne) and route all international traffic through my one 3gig account, and national traffic through the other, since about 90+% of what I do is local, so I baisically never get capped; plus I have another PC in my house on a third account, with all 3 these connections going through the same hub, connecting (through PPPoE) over the single ADSL line.

How would one go about setting that up fragtion_? Two accounts is easy to organise but what kinda stuff could I use to route the appropriate traffic through the accounts?

[Edioted - didnt c ur reply]
To initiate a PPOE connection, setup a PPOE dial-up connection on each computer. That creates the PPOE link to the ISP endpoint, just like u've been doing.

Your problem is u're using the same account on each dial-up point, and now your ISP has decided that that's no longer allowed (which is BS if it's a capped account).

I don't know exactly how to route using 2 different endpoints, but I do remeber the exact details being listed on this forum somewhere. Search keyword = routing.
