This is just a bit of a rant post more than anything, because I've come across a few posts on the MC forums and here as well (iirc).

I recently decided that I'd get myself DStv HD for the Rugby World Cup, and random other sporting events happening... Hook my new little toy up into my Entertainment centre and its all hunky dory, working lekker, until I change the input on my Receiver to another device (like my HTPC or the PS3).... when I now try and go BACK to dstv, all I get is this wonderful purple screen on my TV and the message "HDCP is not supported" scrolling across my decoder.

Why oh WHY can't MC actually code their software correctly? Every other piece of kit works with my Marantz amp happily EXCEPT the DStv decoder, and I know if I complain to MC about it, they will just suggest a work around (of which I've tried a good few), instead of commiting to actually fixing their shyte software.

Change providers .......... maniacal giggle........ Have you had a look for the Search in the epg? What about the PREMIUM users who pay a fortune but can't access certain channels available on their decoder, no I don't mean bouquet I mean like Swazi TV, and those 1/2 dozen at the end. HD is a waste of money! Thank heavens one can multiview with ones SD for no extra charge.

Didn't you know: MC don't fix existing problems and bugs, they just introduce new features. Why should you be able to actually watch TV when you can rent movies for R25 a pop?

Sent from my HTC Desire S using MyBroadband Android App

so what you guys are suggesting is that, if one wants to go the HD PVR route its gonna fail??? does anyone else with dstv HD have got this same problem???

Its not necessarily that its going to fail, just that be aware that you could have issues if you try do things in a normal fashion.

There are a few ppl who have this problem that I've seen on forums, including DStv's own forum.

and it seems that MC's solution is to plug the HDPVR directly into the TV, which defeats the purpose of having a nice fancy receiver so that I can only have one HDMI cable to the TV.

Yep I did, and still do have the same problem. It started when I moved from my 32" Samsung to 42" LG, the way that different brands manage connections with devices is different I think, I'm hoping an expensive HT reciever will solve the problem (at least that's what I'm telling the wifey :D )

Fudzy, don't be sure.. and its not an issue with the TV or the Receiver (I have a decent high end receiver).... its MC and their pisspoor coding.

Every other device I have that uses HDCP works like a dream with my receiver, its just the HDPVR.

(But of course you don't have to tell the missus that :D )

TL;DR

;) :D

Though saying that, if I switch from DSTv to PS3/HTPC without turning the decoder off it doesn't display the whole message, just goes into a loop with "HDCP 15" scrolling. Often it doesn't recover from this and going back to DSTv means a hard reset.

Ahhhh you have a pace decoder...

"HDCP 15" is actually "HDCP is not supported", the decoder just can't scroll the message properly.....

Mine does exactly the same thing, but even if I turn the decoder "off" before changing inputs, it does the same thing.

thats also what i want to do...hook up the blu-ray player, xbox and HD PVR to the receiver and only use one HD cable from the AMP to the TV... isnt there like a QVL for the HD PVR 2P ???

Have you tried a different HDMI cable? I had a similar problem between my Blu-Ray and AVR and in the end the change of cable sorted it all out.
