bought this DSTV card from a multichoice agent third party. i phoned multichice 3 time and said that for activation must have their decoder as i got only international manhattan decoder. so how to go about this???:confused::confused:

You can only use DSTV decoders, the only option is to get another decoder which will come with a smartcard. How much did you get charged for a smartcard...?

Multichoice does state in their terms and conditions that you may only use the card in a Multichoice device. So they won't activate it until you get one and put the card in the device :)

Won't work anymore. The decoders are paired with the cards.

Smart card is locked to the decoder (serial number/identification tag) - Just go and buy yourself a decoder for R490 with installation) wasn't the case long time ago when other competition was in the market pace, etc

Haven't been a DSTV subscriber over 8years wouldn't know what are the new terms.

I remember back in the day they would change the smart cards for free for everyone if something changed.

TopTV does the same thing as well, locks the smartcard to decoder. Assuming this was done to stop piracy

They changed it to stop people from stealing decoders.
Unfortunately it also screws you on holidays - you can't take your card from home, go on holiday and plug it into that decoder. You have to lug it along.

You need to phone them, give them the serial key of your card, they'll verify the decoder and then pair it. They do however, charge money for changes and stuff.
