People with DStv in South Africa must make a big decision

DStv customers around South Africa are deciding whether to remain subscribed after the pay-TV platform announced that it was losing four channels, with another twelve at risk.

Subscribers on month-to-month packages must decide whether to wait for the outcome of DStv’s negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery or submit their cancellations for January.

Meanwhile, Paramount Africa will close its doors at the end of December 2025, which brings an end to the company’s South African operations.

Paramount Africa is a television and multi-media broadcast organisation based in South Africa and Nigeria.

What I still don't understand about this side issue, is why only 4 of the channels that Paramount supplies DStv are affected.

MultiChoice Group, now a Canal+ company, has told MyBroadband that its negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) were ongoing, independent of the corporate action at the company.

Interesting. However, I wonder if "ongoing" doesn't just mean they're waiting for the buyout to be finalised first. Or at least for the players to become more certain.

“Our own commercial discussions with WBD remain ongoing, and we are not in a position to comment on the negotiations of other industry players,” a spokesperson for MultiChoice Group said.

“There is no final decision regarding any WBD channels or content on our platforms. As always, any updates that may affect our customers will be communicated directly and transparently.”

Because other Paramount channels on dstv are managed by Paramount's international division, not Paramount Africa which is the only one that's closing down. Seperate distribution agreements with MC.

That makes sense re the BET and MTV Base channels, they both seem African in origin.

But the CBS Reality & CBS Justice channels are US based... - so maybe those two didn't perform well enough, though I doubt it.

While CBS as a brand and network is indeed owned by Paramount (now Paramount Skydance Corporation following the 2025 merger), the specific international channels CBS Reality and CBS Justice are not wholly owned Paramount properties. Instead, they operate as joint ventures through the CBS AMC Networks EMEA Channels Partnership, co-owned between CBS Studios (a Paramount subsidiary) and AMC Networks International. This partnership has independently decided to shut down these two channels as part of its own strategic review and cost-cutting, coinciding with but not directly caused by Paramount Africa's closure. In contrast, channels like Nickelodeon are fully managed under Paramount's global networks and remain unaffected by these regional decisions.

Old one, we never got the new one. Yeah Niles and Martin really made it, actually all the cast. But Niles was really well played
 
I didn't see any announcement about price reductions because fewer channels will be available? Not that ito DStv, so might have missed it.
Anyway, the only choice is between the relative convenience of selecting a channel on your remote and finding it at an alternative source.

Only 4 lost so far (caused by external factors), nothing definite yet about the other 12.

I really do think MYBB has become a clown show of idiotic articles. Everything is so over dramatic. I mean you mofos know we have premium for one reason and one reason alone, live sport. Everything else is a torrent away. Heyzeus wept!
