So a cleaner at my office came to me, fearing that she might have become a victim of a scam.

She received a call from someone saying they are from multichoice and that her current decoder is now outdated, and she needs to upgrade to a new decoder. They asked her for all her details, ID number, bank details etc. which she gave willingly. We did phone multichoice now and they can't pick up anything funny as yet, but they don't want to comment if this is scam or not since there are 3rd parties that are resellers and she might have upgraded or subscribed through them?

The number they phoned from just rings engaged.

Change bank password if handed over. Only reason I'd say scam is I don't (and haven't needed to) hand over sensitive information over the phone. It's always via some online portal or similar. Surprised multichoice can't tell you whether they make calls like this.

Ok she started to receive Debi check SMS. Told her to phone ABSA bank and decline all these debi checks.

She doesn't use internet banking.
