DStv enhancing Mzansi Magic channel

MultiChoice will integrate its 1Max programming onto the Mzansi Magic channel from 31 March 2025, significantly enhancing its content offering.

MultiChoice explained that this change forms part of its ongoing channel simplification to adapt to changing consumer behaviour.

Was anyone shocked many people predicted this last year as it's all about getting people to pay for Showmax as the type of content from M-Net doesn't drive subscriptions even if it was on a broadcaster like SABC

Although the changes mean that the 1Max channel will close on the DStv platform, the content will not be lost.

Wow, this channel 103 has changed name or identity, and vanished or reappeared about half a dozen times!

But change is good...

Great more shyte to have to flip through to get to the 9 channels that are appealing.

I believe 1Max was a pop-up channel as MultiChoice never gave it much press when it launched. I think the question would now have to be if M-Net will follow soon.

I believe it's just another local-is-lekker mix experiment in partial failure.

M-Net is their main or secondary flagship, and is the proud cornerstone the company first started with, they will never cull it.

They could reduce content spend for the channel instead of relying on fresher releases they look to scoop up much older content from 2020. It's like that with Warner and Disney and with Canal+ potentially acquiring MultiChoice I do see them making adjustments.

Well they did do that already quite a bit with M-Net, and it looked (from a public perspective) like it backfired. Some improvement in series chosen is underway.

They did it worse with the movie channels, though in that case easier to get away with with the younger generations who won't worry about slightly older movies. But I suspect that still cost them more in subscribers. Also harder to fix, I know something about what they pay per new movie and it's huge.

Canal+ is somewhat a mystery, but looks to me like they're treading carefully, which can only be in our favour (hopefully sooner rather than later).
