Just been told by the good lad at Specsavers that I need multifocal lenses - up to this point single vision lenses has been OK.

The cost is much more and the first feedback I get from people is that they changed within a week - they just could not get used to the MF lenses.

I work on a computer and currently don't have any issues reading on a screen, the only time I notice the need for new specs is when I,m reading.

What would be the better option - mutifocal or two single vision specs?
Do you have multifocals?

My dad has problems with his multifocals, he says that the area in which things are clear is very narrow, so for example you can only read a single line of text and then have to readjust to see the line under it.

He swears by his bifocals though.

I'm a developer and have used light-weight varifocals for over ten years. Personally I wouldn't swop.

The advantage is that you only require one pair of glasses.

And being so light I frequently forget that I'm wearing glasses ... :)

I went from single vision to multifocals and could not be happier. Also got sv sunglasses for driving.

Multi focal lenses will distort spatial dimensions, especially when using stairs. This usually lasts a week before the brain adjusts to the strange perspective. It seems 'these people' were impulsive.

I got new specs a couple of months back, my wife tells me they are trifocal, so I guess they qualify as multifocals. It took a few days to get used to them as I also had single focus lenses before these. They are made for reading, working on the PC and driving, there are three very noticeably different lens gradations and they're definitely what I needed and requested.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.Still not sure which way to go. At this point my reading is still ok - just have to move some pages to about 30cm away in order to focus clearly,

i have multifocals. had them for over a year and maybe worn them 10 times, just cannot get used to them.
been back to the optometrist twice, she checked them & retested my eyes on both occasions.

expect this:

thing is - as soon as you get them - wear them, keep wearing them & i believe you will get used to them.
