howzit.

Just a quick question to all whom has done this before.

What additional hardware do it need for a Media Centre machine?

I want to maybe record some stuff from DSTV watch DivX movies Play MP3 via home theater system, and i need to sit on my couch whilst controlling the device.

Oh BTW TV is HD

You'll need a tv card that you can hook up to the dstv and a mce remote of sorts. preferably get a mobo/gpu with dvi out and use a dvi to hdmi adaptor. I'm assuming you have the rest of the machine already?

TV Tuner Card, Media Centre Remote Control and Meedio

Hi

I have setup a Media Centre Machine with a WinFAST TV Tuner Card utilising both the Cable as well as composite inputs, A Radeon Graphics Card for output to the TV, Media Centre Remote Control and Media Centre Wireless Kayboard for Games and using Meedio as my Default Startup program which interfaces nicely with the TV Tuner Card and has all my menus setup for my Games ( Installed with ISO Images and a batch file running the Daemon Tools Loading ), and movies on my USB 1.5TB Hard Drive.

Works like a dream

what decoder do you have? how computer literate are you?

I have the HD PVR.

And i am computer literate, but my occupation does not allow me to keep up to date with the boffins

Does one get a TV-card that can accommodate HD input ?

The thing is i dont wan to burn money on bogus hardware that will not meet my requirements :o

I'm not sure about the tv card that has HDMI in for recording/capturing, but maybe google can bail you out. Personally, I don't see the point of recording a few progs off DSTV HD cause the rest of the content is broadcast in "normal mode". Your HDPVR should be able to record all HD content off the one channel with HD content, or am I missing the point here. If I'm right, a HTPC with HDMI out should satisfy your needs. The others/you can correct me if I'm wrong here.
