I have a Playtime HV0103 multimedia player (similar to mVix) that I usually connect to via USB in order to transfer files to the HDD. Thinking it'll be faster I tried connecting my laptop via its built-in lan port using a crossover cable with static IP's & same network masks both sides. XP says local area connected but that's as far as I get. Trying to connect with win explorer to \\<IP address> gives me 'An error occurred reading folder: The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. (123)'. The player also doesn't pick up shared folders on my laptop via the network as it should. Question .. is the fact that the laptop is set to a domain (for work) the problem, or maybe the fact that I'm using a crossover cable instead of a hub? Any ideas .. ?
