The general consensus, especially if you want full HD capability, is probably -

Mede8er
Popcorn Hour A110 (not sure if the new one is out yet)
Tvix 6500

From this list I'd go for the WD one too, It support the most formats including .mkv for High def movies:D

You're right. Good price and specs.

But the external HDD is a real no-go for me i.t.o. portability.
 
A good review portal for media players is MPC Club.
People have different needs and budgets so determine your priorities up-front.

Many of these reviews are based on early firmware versions, so once you have a product in mind then go to the forums of that brand and get updated info.
Do your research or live with the consequences...
