Hi Guys,

Im looking for an alternative to DSTV in terms of delivering content.

We have a 50" TV and were wondering what we can make / buy on the cheap which will allow us to stream content from our PC's on the network to the TV or even better allow us to use YouTube on the TV.

I am not looking for an Apple TV or one of those WD TV devices but something which is a lot cheaper and more economical. I have looked at the Pi 2 board but once one has purchased the relevant accessories it becomes just as expensive as a WD TV device.

If anyone has a device which they are willing to sell and are in the Joburg area I am open to offers.

Would appreciate any advice.

Kind Regards

You will be still hard pressed to beat the Pi 2 with Kodi IMO. You don't need a bunch of expensive accessories, you must have an old 4 gig SD card lying around, plus an old 1.5A cellphone charger. Plug in a wired network, add the Youtube plugin and you are good to go.

Fantastic, Thanks for the advise. Where is the cheapest place to get a Pi 2 (Student budget) :)

Shop around, but RS Components is a good choice if you want new. You will be up against the current exchange rate however.

Perhaps someone on MyBB has one that they bought on impulse buy and is lying around unused, so maybe a post in the wanted section may uncover one at a reasonable price?

Don't be tempted to get the older model, it must be the Pi 2 for Kodi duty.

Wants to stream from all devices to TV...more bells and whistles would also be nice. BUT WD TV is too expensive.......................

Pffffffft.

I am using a old core 2 duo laptop that I was going to throw away because the screen was cracked. You should be able to pick one up for cheap.
