Ok, so tbh I've never been much for multiplayer.

Have always preferred single player story mode. Partially way back it was due to bad home data connectivity.

This is no longer the case. Recently I've dabbled a bit with MP, but on entry those guys fukk me up six love and it does not make for much fun.

What is the best way to approach MP, that you can work yourself into it nicely, do's & don'ts. Is there a best game to play ?

The concept intrigues me but i need some technical guidance.
 
It depends on what game you're playing.

If you're playing an FPS on free-for-all, they will own you (unless you apply a strategy to distinguish their weaknesses and then start owning them).

If you're playing an FPS, the best thing to do would be to go "team-play". You should stay alive a lot longer, unless your team are trolls/noobs.
 
Not all games have the same MP options.
Play something like Loadout free2play from Steam.
It has a low skill ceiling and is an enjoyable shooter to get into as a first time MP.

When you're more comfortable you can move onto other games.
 
I don't think you should even be concerned about skill level for now, just enjoy yourself.
Find a few friends online and jam with them.

I only have console, PS3 & 4, no PC :(

If i use PS and he has same game on Xbox can we still play MP ?
 
Oh well, just play something like Black Ops 2.
Pickup and go.

Just don't be phased by the ranks for now.
Just learn the ropes knowing full well you'll die.
 
If you play FPS on an international server and the players are good, you will get owned often. Fortunately, they're often not good - all depends on your luck with the lobby.

Try objective games instead of the standard deathmatch. Objective allows you to, to some extent, predict movements and even the odds a bit assuming, of course, that the teams actually play the objective and don't just go on a TDM rampage.

TDM on local servers, you will get owned until you have played for quite a while - at that point you are so accustomed to the maps that your subconscious almost registers movements where they shouldn't be before your brain does..

All in all, I find it a ****ton of fun, but sad that so few ppl locally play OBJ games.
 
How can one tell, whether the lobby servers are international or local ?

Not one of those 3 has multiplayer. :p

Anyway, best way is to just play. You might get your ass kicked at first but you'll get better with time.

Also read up on tips, watch YouTube videos of people playing etc.

No, on international. The information has to travel much farther, remember...

Depending on the game, they sometimes have little flags next to the server so you can see where it's based. Or they sometimes give you the option of choosing which country you want to filter by, like Battlefield 4.

Latency/pings concern the "strength" of the connection. The lower the ping, the better your connection to the server.

That is why S.Africans generally connect to Europe for international gameplay, as we seem to have most of our undersea cables connecting directly there (afaik, our connection to US goes through UK first - or used to).
 
If you play FPS, then I would suggest that you pause for a second.
Most of the better players will run in a direction.
Start following them and use yourself as a human shield for the first few times, but learn something every time you die.

With time you will get the hang and get a few kills.
Work from there onwards.

Just know there is going to be ALLOT of FRUSTRATION the first couple of hours because you are going to die allot.

But hang in there it will get better eventually
