Multiplayer

yes, i'm prepared to put in the effort just wanna get max fun.

and i assume i will need a PSN subscription ? this never used to be in the past

Anyway, best way is to just play. You might get your ass kicked at first but you'll get better with time.

Also read up on tips, watch YouTube videos of people playing etc.

None of those three has multiplayer? Coz they all do.

Have to ask - how old are you? From what I have experienced in MP games today is that the younger generation (the sub - 20 year olds) have much better reaction times. Don't worry if you don't make any hall of fames for multiplayer games just go out and have fun.

Battlefield and basically and COD title is always popular, but just be careful of which COD title you go for - they die quicker than anything else. Some guys still play BO1, Ghosts, BO2. The rest are basically dead.

Double that age. Naah not too worried about hall of fame, i just hear people speak of MP with such passion and i also want in on some of that fun.

So is FPS considered as the lead in MP ?

PS4 has quite a few free play FPSs with multiplayer.

Also look for Bulletstorm on PS3. Should be R100 at most shops. And it's on PSN for super cheap.

Just sold it, didn't like GTA very much, but will try the FPS as per Chevrons post.

I remember playing Quake 2 waaaay back with friends on PC, was great fun, but haven't touched MP aspect since then so i'm assuming its changed a lot.

Yeah - most popular. There are MMO's and stuff, but I am not personally into that. FPS is just the most fun especially if you get into it with a bunch of friends on teamspeak. If you have steam add me: Slaught3rza - if we have the same games we can jam together. :)
 
On COD Black Ops2, for example, you can set your lobby search preferences in terms of max ping. So if you set your max ping 200ms or lower you'll probably get a local server - might have to wait a little for death match games and probably wont get any OBJ games. If you set the ping higher you'll probably get international. May also see from gamer tags what country most players are from.

General FPS tips:

don't always run, go slower at doorways/around corners and perhaps aim down sights in these areas
if running and you encounter an enemy, shooting from the hip will be faster than trying to ADS first
don't camp :)
