Question:
Is it okay to run two or more antivirus programs simultaneously? (i.e. run NAV and AVG at the same time) or will the clash with each other? And if I run two firewalls at the same time (i.e. ZoneAlarm and Windows Firewall) will they clash with each other or will it actually be a good idea and provide more protection???

fek... In that I think I'll just run Norton and Windows Firewall 24/7, and run AVG every now and then

When i installed norton when i had another firewall it warned running 2 firewalls at the same time could lock the system up permenently preventing any sort of log on... donno about safe mode though...

windows firewall is not really a firewall, it does not warn you of outgoing connections like the other firewalls do. i would suggest changing to a diffrent firewall.

Have a look at Avast . I installed and ran a scan after installation , it picked a lot more and removed things than norton did. and it is free .
Firewall zonealarm not too bad, but definitly not the windows one, useless

You will not be any safer by running two software firewalls on the same box and most likely you will have all sorts of "interesting" issues under XP.

You can look at nod32 as well not a resource hog at all. If you have some old hardware standing around i would recommend to use that as a Linux based firewall /proxy that would speed up your sufring as well if configured correctly.

I have heard many say ZoneAlarm is very good...I have PC Cillin which of the two is better and why... Remember PC Cillin has Anti-Virus and Firewall...So if ZoneAlarm is the choice what runs with ZoneAlarm to give you the best Protection?...

AVG and ZoneAlarm is better than PC Cillin, thats my opinion. The great thing about ZoneAlarm is its free and you can run it with any Antivirus. Even with free AV like AVG Free and AntiVir Personal Edition. Bundled solutions are less secure.

Turn off the firewall in PC Cillin and run ZoneAlarm... should do the trick.

I have AVG running with Norton Internet Security 2005 (with Norton Antivirus disabled), and it works.

You cant run Windows firewall and Zone alarm at the same time by the way, cause Zone Alarm turns off the windows firewall by default. I use Zone alarm with the built in AV and spyware protection, should I rather use AVG or something else as my anti Virus program? Anyone know how good the AV on Zone alarm is? It uses PC Assosiates for AV by the way.

I run Norton and that slows my system down enough, running more than one is over kill... lol, but I dont see a huge problem with it, might have a conflict here and there. I would however NOT do it

Best protection is education

99% of Internet threats will move to a softer target if you have any protection. This is true because there are still lots of computers with no protection at all: many because of sloppy IT deployment in large corporations; and many due to lack of knowledge.

A lot of people install "free" software and are not aware of spyware and Trojans that are installed with it. One of the worst culprits is Peer to Peer software.

You can argue until you are blue in the face about which product is best, but the fact is the weakness is in the user. The best protection is easily compromised by user intervention.

e.g. Zonealarm warns do you want to allow BadTrojan to access the internet, user clicks Yes. Security is breached.

The best protection is to educate the end user. A well educated user will not run into security problems even while using Windows Firewall, and any cheap/free antivirus.

Cheers,

Zonealarm comes with antivirus/antispam.
Havnet had any problems thus far

No windows firewall sucks

Yes educate ... But educate them to use a proper firewall.

A well educated user still doesn't much else but luck protecting him while using windows firewall.
