Hi

It's me again :o

:)

Peruse the following diagram :

ftp_traffic.jpg

FTP Traffic from 192.168.5.1 must be able to be pushed out on the Internet (uploads).

WIll it be possible with multiple gateways?

As is, the first gateway is 192.168.5.254, and the second one would be 192.168.1.1

Machine at 192.168.1.1 is set up with static routes, so it is able to see 192.168.5.1, and 192.168.5.1 can ping 192.168.1.1 but not the Internet.

Machine at 192.168.1.1 is a firewall. It is possible to upload the FTP files first to this PC, and then, from this PC to the final destination.

I doubt whether the client software will support ftp via proxy - it's a SCO OPenserver 5.x machine...

Both windows and nix support adding static routes to point specific ip ranges/prefixes to other gateways, so in short: yes.

Just make sure you point routes back to the originating ip ranges, so that routing works in both ways, then it should work just fine.

yes it will work.
What you will do is set default route for all traffic on the 192.168.5.0 network to the 192.168.1.254 and you set the default route on the 192.168.1.254 to the router on the internet.
What you will need to do then is add routes so that the internet router will be able to ping the server on the 192.168.5.0 network.

doing it the way you suggested where you upload to a server located on the other network and going through there is a bit of a mission and you basically causing yourself allot of extra work.
