Hi There

I am looking for a multiple HDD storage system that can be externally connected to any PC but should not be network supported. So in short a NAS box that is not a NAS box.

In other words ... I would like to be able to expand the system myself by just adding mor HDD to it as the others fill up untill max capacity is reached.

I can not seem to find anything close to what I am looking for on the net seeing that every search just comes up with NAS systems that is far to expensive and not suiting my needs.

Any ideas or suggestions is welcome.

Regards

So what's your aversion to a network? It's like having a car and removing the wheels :wtf:

Take a HP ProLiant MicroServer @ R1400, add up to 6 drives, done. Numerous threads on the subject around here.

Maybe the Thecus N5500
5 drives max, can do DAS
at only R5.5k excluding drives

Edit to add that I went the HP Microserver route

Best option for like r1000 and something is gonna be an esata/USB 2bay external, that fits your requirement.

My suggestion would be a hp micro server! I have one bolted under a desk, set and forget! Can change the storage as I need R1500 at the moment I think.

Thx all that replied.

I now have a good idea what to look for. Both the HP and Drobo options seems to be very good and viable options. Now for the choises that has to be made...
