Hi All

A buddy of mine has a family member that was the victim of multiple incidents that should have not been allowed to happen in the first place and at the very least resolved after the first one.

To put it mildly, nursing staff were not helpful.

What is the correct approach to take this forward?

Thanks in advance.

cheers

Very mild indeed. Contacting someone of importance at the hospital would be my thumb-suck guess.

I will never have faith in a Netcare facility again after the horrendous manner in which myself and my wife were treated when her dad got rushed into ICU and died 4 hours later.

From the nursing staff, to the doctor who pronounced my father in law dead to the admin staff......ROTTEN!

I went to the hospital management who practically brushed me off. Only after I managed to get hold of one of the Directors at Netcare did the hospital take me seriously, or so I thought.

They set up a meeting with all parties that were involved and it came down to a pitiful sorry from their side. I never want anyone to go through what we had to that day.

Complain to Netcare and post on Hellopeter / FB / twitter.

And maybe try and get hold of the person in charge of the facility and bitch at them.

Each and every hospital I ever visited was rubbish. Their attitude is that you need to be there (sometimes you do not have a choice), so STFU and take what you are given. What are you going to do, get up and go to the next hospital?

My SO's aunt landed up in their Hospital recently and the doctor on duty issued an incorrect dosage ( 50ml instead of 5ml)of medication to be supplied intravenously via a drip. The nurse on duty queried this dosage with the Head Matron as she never saw anyone getting such a high dosage. The head matron gave her a tongue bashing and told her she is not the doctor and she must follow the doctors orders. After they administred the medication, the aunt complained that her hand was burning and they gave her reassurances that it is ok - Another 15minutes later it became unbearable and it is at this point that they removed the drip and queried it. Her hand and face swelled up significantly in the next day or 2 but luckily that was the worst of it.

I see a malpractice lawsuit.

Its a hostpital not a hotel. You need them more than they need you.

I have had problems with the netcares I have visisted. One sent my wife home when she was so sick she couldn't walk because "it was just a bug". Took her 3 weeks to recover. Another sent me home with the markers of a bloodclot, which I was admitted for 2 weeks later.

Had a great experience at Mediclinic Midstream with my operation. Would highly recommend them. Great staff and the rooms are like nothing I have ever experiences - you are not all crammed in!

Very unfortunate to hear.

We have had nothing but stunning service and treatment from Pretoria East Hospital. From the maternity ward to emergency room to the general wards.

Follow the channels and lay a complaint. Make sure to keep all correspondence and evidence and don't just leave it.
