Hi there,
I was wondering if there is an adsl modem that allows you to add multiple accounts (username & password) to it?
If this is possible, is there a modem that allows for the automatic change of accounts when one has reached its cap?

Thanks,
Kevin.

adsl routers can have many concurrent connections at the same time on the same line. Just Route sentry the kid

While there are probably a number of routers that allow multiple pppoe connections concurrently, I doubt that the modem would be able to detect when an account is capped.

EDIT: The problem, of the top of my head, is that even when capped the account actually connects to the ISP. So there would have to be a program on the router that routes traffic via ppp0 first. If say there is a timeout after 5 seconds while trying to route, it then tries to route through ppp1 and so on and so on.

Just change the account details on the router when the one account is capped.

A Cisco 837 or 877 with the latest IOS can do the above - even moving onto the next account when the current one is capped.

Cisco 837/877 = ~ R3600

Ebay or refurb - R1000 - R1500. If you want the nice stuff, you must pay for it. A PC doing the same function won't cost much less, will take up more space and not be as reliable.

As was mentioned, why don't you just set up the router in bridge mode and then set up the various accounts in Windows??

Thanks for the replies. The pc option would be what I will use if the cisco router does not work, as I have a number lying around I can quickly setup and use for pppoe. Of course I will not have the auto change, so I will look into the cisco router first.

snobee, make sure the router has 12.4(15)T code or later, or else the multiple PPPoE functionality will not work.
