I just got an iBURST UTD device and it works great ....(for now).
I have 2 PC's running Win XP Pro -- how do I hook both up to the iBurst device?

Previously with ADSL we just connected all together via simple router and both PC's connect (using ADSL username / password). Trying this with iBURST, I get the message -- "model already in use" or something like that.

Do I need to connect 1 pc & other one via that one? Is' there some other method.

Many Thanks
Liam

Ok, do you have a 3rd oldish low-spec PC in the garage or something? - if you do, I would recommend trying to use it [instead of Windoze] to share & maintain your iBurst connection using SmoothWallExpress or IPCop (both Linux firewalls, not too difficult to install & get running). Otherwise try ICS - more info in the FAQ sticky thread (post#1).

what a joke!!!

I had the same question, asked twice. First time I asked them at their offices if I could use the UTD modem with a TCP cable & connect it to my Switch at home and then connect with either one of the computers (or both). The said yes, but when I got home, it also didn't work. Called them & asked again... so now they say no. The question I ask: Do you also HATE THE GUTS of sales assholes?

To get back on topic, what I'm doing is running one pc (desktop) to do Internet Connection Sharing. The other pc (laptop) then just have the gateway of the desktop to use the internet connection share.

First of all, TCP cables don't exist. that's where you first went wrong.

What will be the solution, cos i'm kinda having the same problem with my PC and a Thinkpad?

Dude just do a peer to peer network connection.
Ie run an RJ45 cable between the two pc's
Connect the two to a Wrokgroup.
Share internet connection and whalah.

And yu can do it with a router or switch, but you need to give your I burst unit a fixed IP, and then run the other pc's on aUTO ip ADRESSING, When you setup your office network.
Tyr that it should work.

I am still a bit confused.

I havn't got a third PC.
I am not to keen to set up a home network and make one PC the "master" and connect via that. Because both pc's are laptops and not always connected to 'network'.

What I do have is a Wireless lAN (Belkin WLAN) -- somehow I think I might be able to use that. I am searching for the handbook of the Wireless Router for now.

Any solutions still welcome.
Thanks
Liam

iBURST rocks (for now)
tons better than my previous ISDN connection....

This will probably do the trick. Why not pick up the manual from Belkin's web site? It will cost you a chunk of your day's allocation but save you some time...

How the hell do you assign an ip to the UTD ?

there is no way that you can give your UTD a fixed IP for your local network. The UTD is just a modem/interface - to be used with a router or connected to the pc.

As Mercury stated above, if the Belkin wi-fi access point is also a router, then use it! You don't really need to find the manual.

I've got the belkin wifi + DSL router + 4 port ethernet switch at home. I don't use it though. Look on the wi-fi box - if it has a port for WAN, then it's a router. Log in to the http interface to set up the connection, as easy as that. I remember a story of a user on this forum who just plugged it in with out setup, It worked perfectly.

Other options:

You got an old box and two ethernet cards lying around? Setup ipcop or smoothwall on it, it's easy to use and stable as hell. Search the forum or google for help on this one.

If you really must, use windows internet connection sharing. You don't need a hub for this: Your main box will have two network cards: one connected to the iBurst UTD, the other connected via UTP host-to-host cable (standard network cable, some pins reversed) to your other connection.

WHY THE HELL DID U MOVE FROM DSL TO iBust?!!!?!?!?!??!?!?!

I am having very weird problem with connection sharing using Mandrake 10. I don't care much solving it because I am cancelling my iBurst (unless some magic happens like in the next 2 days - very unlikely), but I am very curious what the problem is.

My setup is UTD connected to eth1 and eth0 connected to the rest of the network. Evrything seems to work fine (well iBurst "fine", not real world fine, but that is besides the point!) on the Linux box, but on the Windows boxes (got 2 of them) I can't access most web sites. Pinging a web site from windows seems to work, but tracert times out. Only few local sites seem to open on the windows boxes, while everything opens fine on the Linux box just fine.

I tried removing all firewall rules just for the sake of the test, leaving only the masquarading stuff in the iptables, I have the ip forwarding on as well. To make thing more weird, I can disconnect the UTD (it appears as ppp0 when connected) and connect via dial-up modem (also as ppp0), and everything works just fine, I can access any site from any machine. So I am puzzled, I have no idea what the problem could be. Any ideas will be appreciated, I really want to figure that out.

Thanks

OK -- so I've got my Belkin Wireless Router set up but can't get it to work.

Does anyone spot any obvious errors in steps below?
This is what I've done.

Connect 2 pc's to LAN ports side of router.
I get an IP address for network connection on PC.
Connect iBurst device to WAN port side.
Go into router setup page (http://192.168.2.1/)
In setup page goto "WAN > Setup Page"
Select connection type "PPPoE"
Type in username / password (that does work, without router)
Leave "MTU" on default setting -- 1492
Apply changes
Restart router.
.. thats it .. problem is, is it not working.....

I see the WAN light on Belkin router is not lit up ... according to the manual it needs to be "Solid green". So I've tried a normal and crossover cable between iBurst device & WAN connector on router. No luck.

If I plug iBurst directly into LAN ports (so using it as a "switch"), I am able to connect, but again just one PC can connect -- original problem.

Anyone else using a BELKIN wireless router?
The exact model # is F5D6231-4.

Many thanks
Liam
