Does anyone know of a NAT router (or even better a software patch for my Netgear) that will allow it to open multiple ADSL connections and use them simultaneously?

I have both IS and SAIX access accounts and in the last few weeks i have to swap the login details on my router every 3 days when something goes haywire on one or other of the networks.

I want to be able to setup both accounts on the router and let it choose which connection is better at any specific moment providing redundancy. Basically achieving the same as i would get with 2 routers and a load-balancing auto-failover router but all on the same copper loop as i don't really need the extra speed of having 2 lines (can't afford it either  )

Any suggestions?

Depends on which Netgear Router u have. If u have the DG834 or similar family then u can put it in modem mode. I currectly have a DG834 in modem mode, using more than 1 acct with Mikrotik that does the routing.

Just connect to it: http://your-router-ip/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm and choose the mode u want.
U can then still connect http://your-router-ip/ to look at a few things...

Obviously u will then have to make PPPOE sessions through it from another box (like Mikrotik) or normal old Windows box. Just remember u are now more than ever responsible for your own firewalling & security.

Enjoy

I've got an IPcop box behind the router...

As far as i remember - it won't support multiple routes and auto-failover on a basic config. How would i go about setting up the IPcop to do this?

I would sugest switching the router to bridge mode and connect with the pc's rather... this would also alow you to better manage the bandwidth of each account.

What exactly do you mean by this??
I need help and suggestions as to what software to use. I have at least 5 client machines that all need permanent connections - so i need some sort of NAT/firewall (which i currently have in the form of IPcop).

Has anyone had experience setting up IPcop or any of the other *nix based NAT/firewalls to do auto-failover and load balancing on multiple PPPoE connections??

I was looking at ease of implementation... If you want a more redundant system, I would look at setting up a linux box with multiple PPPoE connections.

You could even choose to route local traffic though one connection and international traffic though the other.

You could use ipcop to manage more than one profile in your pppoe settings!
Also have a look at Addons Server for ipcop, it alows you to add addons to your ipcop box! after that check out:
QuickControl
1.0-b1 Green Utilities With this Mod you can choose which Profile you want to dial and shutdown IPCop from 'Home'. Reboot not required.

I don't know if its what you want. As sugested above put your modem in bridge mode and use ipcop to control the dailing, pppoe.
