South Africa making big solar mistake

Most South African municipalities are missing out on the untapped potential of excess rooftop solar capacity, which is right on their doorstep.

Without a major intervention or mindset change, municipal electricity sales are likely to continue to decline, putting their main income stream under severe pressure and causing many more municipalities to fail.

Bearing the fruit of 30 years corruption and mismanagement. If it doesn't bring money into cadre pockets it's the colonial enemy.

Municipalities are not missing anything, they are watching it go past like a freight train while stuffing their faces with KFC and a Coke before claiming some or other nonsensical 'unfairness' nonsense...

There is no guarantee the municipality will even pay you at all.
They owe ESKOM billions.

It's not the payout I have a problem with, it will go nowhere in any case. It's the approvals and that you have to pay to do it.

Good, municipalities need to learn how to survive without selling electricity. They should never have been in the business of selling electricity in the first place.

There should be a whole reform when it comes to rates. Non-residential districts should not be subject to the same rates. Areas where municipalities don't provide services should not be subject to property tax so as to provide for safe enclaves for subsistence living.

No thanks, I went solar to get away from the predatory government which spends its time dreaming up new ways to steal money from the consumer. I am happy to go off grid completely, this government will never control my life again.
