Johannesburg - A Kagiso woman who has been on the run for nine years after allegedly stabbing another woman to death, has been re-arrested, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
The 49-year-old was caught in Zeerust, North West, on Tuesday, Captain Solomon Sibiya said.
She allegedly got into an argument with another woman in Kagiso, extension 12, on the West Rand, in March 2007.
The argument escalated into a fight. The woman allegedly drew a knife and stabbed the other woman in her upper body. The victim was rushed to hospital, but was declared dead upon arrival.
The alleged killer was arrested and charged with murder. When she subsequently appeared in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court, she was granted bail, but failed to appear a week later.
A warrant of arrest was issued and a manhunt began.
“The police searched for her as far as Hekpoort, with no success. The police followed some leads during this month, which traced the suspect to Zeerust, North West.”
Detectives drove there and found her. She will appear in court soon.
