Murder sparks Egypt protest

El-Arish - Two thousand Egyptians protested against lawlessness in North Sinai province after a man was killed by armed robbers, witnesses and security officials said on Sunday.

The demonstration took place in the town of El-Arish, outside a morgue holding the body of the 50-year-old who was shot dead by thieves who tried to commandeer a truck filled with food.

North Sinai, which borders the Gaza Strip and Israel, is an underdeveloped region where smuggling thrives.
