So i have seen some guys wash mushrooms and some peel them

how you you prepare them

I usually add it straight to the pot/pan/whatever without any cleaning unless its really dirty

I heard is bad to wash mushrooms, they absorb all the water and then it stuffs up the cooking.

I also heard it's bad to wash CUT mushrooms because they absorb the water. Uncut mushrooms are okay to wash apparently, but I can't be assed. I tried washing once and they did seem to be more watery. Last month I ate around 3kgs of them without washing and I was fine.

No washing. Perhaps some tapping if it's really full of soil. Otherwise just cut up and use.

Never wash a mushroom, they are like a sponge and just absorb water which is released during cooking which will cause the mushroom to boil and not fry. Wipe with a damp cloth if they are extremely sandy dunk each one in water quickly then leave on paper towels to dry, but most of the time a damp cloth is all you need

Soaking makes them soggy but a quick rinse wont.

This. I always run them under the water to rinse off dirt.

Also the way you cut them makes a big difference in how they taste. If you're going to saute them first you want to cut them at least into quarters or slices. Dropping them straight into a pot of liquid doesn't allow them to become browned at all which makes the texture mushy. I'd say always brown them in a pan first, or if you're going to roast them that's also fine.

i just throw them straight in
if it is a dirty mushroom i give it a double tap

I take the polystyrene tray it comes in and I just rinse them right in there and then hold my hand over it and shake off any excess.

Doesn't need any more rinsing than that.

I don't see how they can possibly absorb any moisture in those few seconds, they naturally contain the moisture that comes out when you cook them.
