Quite a few years back some guy on some documentary made this comment:
"The education of a child is not complete until he or she has learned to play a musical instrument."

For some odd reason this has stayed with me.

At 25 I've started playing the guitar and I'm finding it very stimulating and satisfying.

So, this had me wondering; if I ever decide to have children, would I have them learn a musical instrument? Maybe just looking at music is a tad narrow minded - creative expression would probably encompass enough.

So, how important do you think it is to get children to choose some form of creative expression and stick to it?

I'd say it's very important. Music and chess is two forms of creative expression I'll teach my kids from a very early age.

My daughter is in grade 1 and they have a compulsory chess class once a week at school. I was pleasantly surprised the day she came home and asked to play chess on the wifes BB. Now we play chess quite often.

I think it is important to stimulate any persons creative side. My study was 'stolen' by my wife and daughter and converted into an arts and crafts room. They spend hours in there creating 'masterpieces' in the form of cards, picture frames, beads etc. and I think that besides the family bond my daughters creativity as well as hand/eye co-ordination is pretty good for her age.
