I'm sad to say that no matter how many times I try, I can't get into Dream Theater. I'm pretty sure I dislike them coz of Labrie's singing. He sounds like such a *****. It's a real pity coz I'm loving progressive metal at the moment, especially Opeth.

Anyone else got some prog metal to recommend that does not include lame Labrie-style singing?

Hmmmm it is a hit and miss for me. Sometimes he sounds awesome but at other times I also don't like it.

Although I did hear that he messed up his vocal chords good and proper a long time ago which can be heard in some of the older albums - the band decided to keep him though (is this true or not?)

Other prog rock

Green Carnation (A bit "eccentric" [if you could call it that for music] at times but all round very good)
Kamelot (Melodious prog metal with good vocals)
Porcupine Tree (Relaxed vibe but occasionally heavy)
Riverside (Weird relaxed vibe but also occasionally heavy, I like their music)
Rush (Still performing and seem to be keeping with the times)
Symphony X (Love or hate - a bit overbored at times)
Stratovarius (Love or hate - some argue is not prog but more power metal)
Marillion (Still performing afaik) - not a heavy band, very relaxed but awesome feel to their music

There is an awesome awesome current prog metal band but for the life of me I can't remember the name right now :/ watch this space :p
