Musicians' thread.

Good day All,

I didn't read this entire thread, only the first few post and the last couple of pages. It seems clear that most here are much further along the path of musician than I am.

I've been learning guitar for two years now. I say learn because I still feel I'm a real noob, although that's probably not quite the case. I think it's probably because I usually practice at the limits of my skill and therefore it remains a challenge (and sometimes more than a bit frustrating). Time wise I practice around 5-6 hours a week.

With regards to gear, I started with the bottom level Squire Stratocaster hardtail with Marshall Code25 amp. A few month ago a friend gave me his Fender Acoustic (T-bucket 100-CE).

I've mostly been using the Yousician app to learn. Although I also had a some personal lessons for a time last year. Additionally, I have ultimate guitar tabs subscription and Rocksmith 2014 (more of a game than a serious tool I'd say, but the session mode is pretty cool).

At the moment, I'm looking at buying my first proper electric and I'm seriously considering the PRS SE Tremonti Custom. Thoughts?

I have a PRS SE 245 (amongst others, including a SE Custom 24) and it is by far my favourite guitar!

So, I've ordered the PRS SE Tremonti Custom guitar on Monday. Of course, it can only be delivered at a lower lockdown level, but at least is was in stock with the distributor.

I was made aware there will be an adjustment in price from May (ROE story etc.) but I still got it at the old price (with a small discount). I checked now and the price has gone up a massive R5000 to R17.5k o_O

Can't wait for it to arrive now

Where did you order it from?

Straight to PC, using Reaper and various plugins. My apartment would not be conducive to amp use. :p

I made a mistake in buying a seven-string, which is not my cup of tea; was a very good deal though - And with the upgrades I'd need to sell for more than most would be willing to play to get my money back. I'd like something a little simpler. Here's my acoustic, which I very unfortunately cracked the neck of, but it's fixed up as well as it can be:

When it comes to both professional and home recording Reaper is the best choice when using a sound mixer (I have Behringer Xenyx, for example). Before it, I was using Audacity which is simpler in use but more straightforward, still a great tool for quick recording. I don't have much space at home and so can't keep many instruments there so I have an old electro-acoustic Yamaha and this electronic drum kit.

Hi there! Looking to get a replacement neck for strat from either Musikraft/Warmoth. Some things I would enjoy having on a guitar neck:
  1. Roasted/Caramelized wood - I know Warmoth does not offer this feature, while Musikraft does for $100. I haven't seen as many Musikraft parts as I would like - buying a neck without seeing/playing it makes me a bit nervous. Can anyone on the forum vouch for them, specifically, a roasted neck?
  2. 1 Piece Maple - I am curious to see a 2 piece maple neck though. Doesn't multiple pieces of wood complicate things? I'd love to understand why you would want a neck in multiple pieces.
  3. Compound radius (12"-16" or 10"-16") - What kinds of guitars have a 12-16 vs. a 10-16 radius on them? My strat has a 9.5", but I've played classical for years and find it more comfortable.
  4. Stainless Steel Jumbo Frets - because they won't wear down (as fast).
  5. Sperzel Tuners - because I like locking and quick string changes.
  6. Wilkinson Roller NOS or Bone Nut - because I like locking and tradition, but hate Floyd Rose.
  7. 24 frets - because rock. Will I have any issues with the location of my neck pickup?
  8. Dual Trust Rod - because stability. And Alabama humidity.

If you have any experience with these qualities in a neck build and have advice/criticisms, please share below.

I wish I had the perseverance to learn guitar properly.

I started of with a 2nd hand strange format Washburn. Then bought a Les Paul (yes that's a flex). And an acoustic later when I took group lessons.

I see someone recommends Yousician, so I'll look into that. Maybe one day I'll be able to play properly.

Ask on a guitar forum, very few people here will have experience with those parts.

This is a good one:

Just placed my order for these - the Czarcie Kopyto Supremes

Arguably the best pedals on the market. Keen for the new project I’m working on, and the drum covers I’ll be creating with my new camera setup

Moved some stuff around, trying to get back into jamming a bit more. Bass guitar off to the side. Quite keen to get an electric piano at some point but need to figure out where to put it and save up for a half decent one with nice weighted keys & hammer action. Tho maybe first get a loop station, some fx pedals and get this whole thing self-contained rather than having to run through the pc.
