Musicians' thread.

I like it a lot copa.. nice choice of sounds and nicely arranged. Sure the mix could be better but thats something that takes a long time to learn.. and the learning process never ends :-)

Thanks. :)

Regarding the mix, yeah, I reckon with time and studio monitors, it could be improved. All I had though was one night, limited experience and a set of HD 202's. :p

make it downloadable and i'll do a quick master on it.. then you can tell me how *** my mastering is :-)

Old track I did, was a prototype for a game track, not entirely completed, but gathering dust on the ol' HDD.

here's a quick remaster - there was quite a bit of clipping in your original which sounds more exaggerated in the master - but i tried to bring some clarity into the non-clipped parts :-)
ended up sounding a bit extreme like overdriven tape from the 70s!

That would actually be quite interesting.

What would be most suitable in terms of volume and existing master compression from my side?

You can leave any compression off the master buss, juts make sure there's no clipping and leave some headroom for me to compress it, otherwise I can try it as is.

It's easy enough to export again and host on quickshare or something. I'll do it a bit later when I can see straight. Don't have the slightest clue why I am not fast asleep right now.

No prob, I gotta get some sleep too, got a gig this afternoon :-/

liked both of these pieces.. good sense of drama, bit lacking in the mix department but that's something south africans have yet to learn :-)

Thanks, both of those were done before I got my studio monitors, those were mixed on Fostex T40RP headphones.

Mother****er. That was a hassle.

All Your Bass Are Belong to Us.

Finally, after hundreds of posts, a musical contribution by the idiot who started the damn thread.

I reckon it'll be a cool intro to an album.

It lacks embellishments as my PC gave up the ghost completely while I was working on it.

Anyway.

Night folks.

:D

Dude, I wholly enjoyed that track! Mixing was great considering your equipment, loved the melody and progression. I can tell you've got a good ear. Keep them comin'

what are you using to master?

I'm trying to master it in Reason, probably bad idea but the rest of my software is quite old and has problems with vista...if I dont get anywhere after some time. I'll rewire through cubase 2 and do it there (yes, I said cubase 2)

Are you talking about just mastering and not mixing at all?

New version? Can't listen now cos I'm away from my machine.

Yeah, just one or two things changed, there was a note in the main melody that was a couple of ticks off beat and it was really starting to irritate me. Also, as I said, those hats had a very unbalanced delay, which I disliked intensely.

I must just leave it now, otherwise I'll never give it up. :p
