Our hero ponders splurging on a Wii...
I already have an Xbox 360 (pride and joy), but think the Wii would be a pretty decent way to involve the girlfriend in gaming.
Aye or Nay?
This way you guys do the thinking and I get to sound like I've given this due thought. ;)

Wii is worth it

I recently discovered that a Wii is a handy purchase.
The trick is that you do require Wii fit with balance board.
I use that program as a fitness routine and there are some very handy game aspects to it too.
Plus the added bonus of a GF that can workout on it without being shy about going to gym makes it a better buy then a gym membership.

Charl
My XBOX is still king though

Oh and I had to buy a PS3 to realise how sadly it compares to the XBOX, but at least it had Blu Ray, the controllers are terrible, thats my biggest complaint.

been then done that and it works :) got th e xbox for me and the wii for the wife but its quite epnesive when you have to buy the balance board etc, but rather get the kinect when it comes out,

Ever tried packing a dog away when you're done with it?

My parents were not impressed.

Xbox 360 is still my favourite! Got myself a few parts from overseas to improve my gaming experience (Such as a hard drive, text pad for messenger, a bit of bling and flashing lights here and there, extra controller, VGA adapter, HD cable, and of course some games)

Lol, we already have a dog.
I thought I'd hang tough till Kinect arrives, it'll cost the same more or less.

So much for impulse buying :)
Anyone seen my spine? ;)

QFT. The wii addons are expensive ... and there are a lot of them.

I don't think it magically turn you wife into a gamer. But there are gamer reasons to have a Wii. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Metroid Prime. Monster hunter and a lot more.

You should be able to pick up a second hand one for under R2000.

lol, matewis, I'm trying to magically turn my wife into a gamer who isn't hogging my console! I wouldn't risk a 2nd hand Wii, just because it wouldnt be in warranty (probably), but also because the kinect will be around the same price. Then we can be certain I'll get no console-ation as Worms gives way to 'fuzzy cutesy animiwamals who respond to my hand gestures'!

I'd go for a Wii if i were you. The Kinect may have some potential once some proper software for it gets released, but looking at the launch list, i'd rather go for a Wii with an already expansive library. Lots of shovelware on it, but there are definite gems in there that would make the purchase more worthwhile than a Kinect.

Of course if this looks like fun to you, then i suppose the Kinect is for you: ;)
