Paris - France's immigration minister said on Wednesday that he wants the wearing of Muslim veils that cover the face and body to be grounds for denying citizenship and long-term residence.

Eric Besson said he planned to take "concrete measures" regarding such veils, which are worn by a small minority of women in France but have become the object of a parliamentary inquiry into whether a ban should be imposed.

Besson spoke during a hearing before the panel of lawmakers as their nearly six-month inquiry draws to a close.

Besson said he believed a formal ban on veils that cover the face and body seemed to him "unavoidable," with a ban in public services as a minimum step.

Whether such veils are banned or not, he said he intends to personally move forward to ensure that women wearing such veils and seeking French nationality or residence cards are denied.

"I want the wearing of the full veil to be systematically considered as proof of insufficient integration into French society, creating an obstacle to gaining (French) nationality," he said.

Britain and France - so close to each other yet so different in the way they deal with immigrants.
 
It's up to France to decide.

My cousin who lives in Paris and married a French woman was surprised by the 'Anti-Israeli' and 'Anti-Muslim' cartoons of Zapiro saying such would be illegal in France. They have pretty fixed rules over there.
 
It probably has nothing to do with 'integration' and is probably because they reckon the ninja ladies are the hardcore islamist types that will one day be protesting for sharia law in France.

I would guess that there are more Muslims in France than in UK.
I find this rather odd, I wonder why they would do this. I remember the President being very comfortable with Islam when he spoke out about the Zidane WC incident.
 
I'm certain that these backward practices would fall by the wayside if the men were forced to wear these ninja suites.

That is the same thing. They welcome all people, but when in Rome, you do as the Romans do. They can't come and force their backwards Islam **** on everyone.

Personally I'm all for accepting any and all people, but don't threaten my culture. If you want to be backwards, go do it in the desert where you came from.
 
lol...how exactly does women wearing their traditional/cultural garb force anything on u?....and how does it threaten your culture....do nuns wearing their full dress affect you too?....i think likely not....

If only Britain took a tougher stance on immigrants. With the standard of people they've allowed in, it makes it a less attractive place to emigrate to. At least that's the impression I get from what I've heard and seen about the place, I haven't been there myself yet.

And is that not an integration issue? If these people were integrated into French culture, they would not be pushing for sharia law.

What do you mean backward practises?
If 2 women apply for a job, its the one thats more beautiful that gets the job in western countries, if both of them had veils, it would be the one thats btter qualified that would get the job.

Most likely not. But if you ask a rapist why did he rape, he'd probobly tell you the urge or lust was too much.

In Islam, A women is a treasure. The husband is the one who is allowed to see the true beauty of his wife.
In the western world, every woman is competing to be better looking than the other, thats why you have plastic surgery and thousands of cosmetics for a woman to enslave herself to compete with other women. In the meantime the chubby girl with a great personality wont get the attention of any man and probably get depressed and commit suicide cos she cant get a man to love her.

If you have backward thinking, you would think of it as backward practises, open your mind a little more and try to understand all the wrong that is around you and what solutions do we have available and you would see the sense that Islam has in its laws and practises.

I want them to love women. As I've always said, my greatest regret is, that there are so many women turning 16 each day and I'll never be able to get to them all...

Yes, I agree, a solution for a tribesman, doesn't swing in Paris.

Tribal laws are were there for a reason. Then roman law stepped in. Tribal law is now acceptable in tribal areas only.

We westerners, will never ask an Arab woman to remove her veil...Unless she/he is a doppelganger.

So...In this new world of terrorists demanding rights...shall we let men try pass off as women?
