yes, check the firmware. They should be in DivX or XviD format. Where did you get most of them from. PM me if you don't want to answer here. I have the MviX 5000.
ok, so there is no reason why those movies should not play. I get mine from the same supplier. If I have a problem it is usually very early in the movie. Either the sound does not work or both. Sometimes it freezes up completely, but that is only with maybe 1 or 2% of the movies. Then I just pass them through a video converter like Media Coder...

and then they play. I am 90% certain that a firmware update will help you though. here's how you do it.
go to
http://www.mvix.co.za/
click on downloads
click on the download link next to your MviX model number.
Read the info there about the firmware update. Ask here again if you unsure which one to get. Try to get the latest one.
Once you have downloaded the zip file, unzip it. There is usually a BIN file inside.
Connect your MviX Player to your PC via the USB Cable.
Create a folder UPGRADE in the root directory of your MviX Player (HDD).
Note: Use Upper Case for the word UPGRADE
Transfer the *.bin file into the UPGRADE folder of your MviX player.
Disconnect the USB cable from MviX and Connect the MviX player to your TV.
Navigate to the UPGRADE FIRMWARE option in the SETUP menu of MviX.
The firmware file should be automatically recognized. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Once the firmware has been upgraded, it will auto switch off and restart itself again.
The new firmware is now installed.
** CAUTION: DO NOT POWER-OFF THE MVIX DURING THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROCESS **
let me know if there are any problems.
