MW2 Issues...

Hey all

Bought MW2 on Friday... Awesome multiplayer... when it work.

I keep getting disconnected, Most of the time i get "connection to steam failed"
Otherwise i get "host migration fail", or after the map load i sit for about 5 min while it says waiting for other players then i get "kick for inactivity" or "server disconnected" :confused:

So um... help!!!

Add people as friends. When they in game you can join they games, or they will invite you. It will make things easier instead of waiting in the lobby. I know, It Sux! I sometime wait 30 minutes trying to find a game. If you can't find a game try either Team Deathmatch or Mosh Pit. Both seem to be becoming increasingly popular. But I love Mosh Pit :D

You can rank up much faster playing Mosh Pit as well.

Hi killswitch, what type of connection do you have, do you have a firewall on your pc/router and what is the NAT status in game?
 
Nat status in game show open... Running on a 4mb dsl... Im not at home but i pretty sure my firewall is currently off, I'll have to confirm when i get home.

Hmmm, tough one, with NAT status open you should be able to join anyone's game... and with a 4mb line you should become host if the other players' lines are bad for hosting... Only problems I have with my 2mb connection is that it is strict NAT so I can't join some lobbies or if the server migrates to another host I stand a chance of not being able to connect...

The part where your Steam connection fails is a bit suspicious. Have you tried to run a ping using the command prompt or a program like ping plotter and check that you don't have timeouts when you disconnect from steam?
 
Hmmm could be... maybe a dodgy switch or router... I'll run a ping 2nite and get back to u.
 
I get the host migration failed error every now and then too, no clue why though.
 
Yeah i often get host migration failed as well...

Well tested yesterday, probably the worst day yet out of my whole MW2 experience... All Firewalls are off (AVG & Win7), ran a ping to the router and to google while playing, Out of like an hour playing(well trying to play) i think i droped 2 packets.

I tried to run steam using tcp... seem to be alittle better but still having endless s*** with it... My steam just randomly goes offline. Any1 else experienced this???
 
Other things worth meantioning... i cant join a game that i get invited to... just says server disconnected or, it goes connection attempt 1...2..3..etc untill it times out! GETTING OLD :(
 
Well, yesterday was a first for me as well. I had endless shlt with connecting to hosts but it never once disconnected from steam.
 
Any 1 no the acctual port and ip that the steam app connects to.... If not i suppose i could tcpdump the thing.
 
Found this - hope it helps:

The following ports must be open in your firewall and router for Steam and Steam Games to work:

UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
TCP 27040 and 27041 only for CyberCafe Owners

Computers running Dedicated Servers need these ports open:

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Im still having these issues... Followed a couple things on the steam site, no help either...

I was hoping to head home after work and play some MW2... but i no im just gonna get kicked.

FFS this is irating
 
In my case I couldn't see any servers and I couldn't join any of my friend's games. So I deleted the "player" folder, which solved the problem. Maybe you should try to delete/move the "player" folder.
 
Well, steam is pissing me off now as well, can't find any games and I keep on getting disconnection on host migration. It was fine when I started but now it seems like its getting worse and sometimes the ****ing game bombs out where it keeps on displaying the unable to connect to host message over and over and the only way to fix is to alt+tab out and force close the game... sigh
 
And infinity ward said dedicated servers were not necessary.

I've been sitting here for 40mins trying to find a game

not even a team deathmatch

back in the good old days of COD4/5, I simply picked a server off 3 or 4 favourites and played. NEVER HAD PROBLEMS
 
Well i think i finally got the thing sorted... Bit of a work around but i hey it works.

Put the router in pppoe relay, created a broadband connection on my pc and well yeah now its working pretty dam good.

Finally!
 
lol yeah! IW must get there head out there ass and realise that Dedicated servers are the way forward.

... Some good news tho, teknogods are making some decent progress on the no internet, no steam, LAN launcher. Cant wait!!!
