I recently brought myself MW2. I installed it everything was installed successfully. Single player is working 100% and multiplayer works but sometimes when I'm playing, as soon as I join and get into the game it crashes. Then I have to CTRL+ALT+DLT and end the application. It only happens sometimes as soon as I join a game. Also does it have anything to do with the NAT settings? Mine always says NAT: Strict, and I've got Upnp and all my ports forwards.

Anyone else had this problem or can you give me somethings to check.

Are you using steam that was installed along with it?
Does steam launch properly?
Does steam do the updates for you?
There are a few updates that my steam has installed for the game...try running the update option in steam to see if your MW2 is up to date.
Also was OS are you using?

EDIT: I see you're using WIN7 32 bit

You cant get MW2 without steam afaik, and if steam doesnt launch properly then u wont be able to launch the game and also steam auto updates the games.

Try this, right click on the game, go to properties, local Files tab, then click "verify integrity of game cache..." and also try defragment local cache

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ya I did a fresh install of Steam when I brought the game, Steam launches properly and is fully updates.

I have done the "verify integrity of game cache..." Doing the Defrag now. Hopefully this helps. I've just been playing co-op online and it was 100% also played single player earlier and that was 100%.

EDIT: After doing the "verify integrity of game cache..." MW2 Multiplayer did do an automatic update. Hopefully this will fix it.

I seem to only have the problem when me and my brother both play MW2 on our same DSL line at home (on separate pc's) I had about 5 games in a row by myself today and it was 100% fine.

Was playing MW2 yesterday, online by myself, and half way through the game it bombed out. Still having the problem :/

This is the error I get first time "DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error"

Then my pc will keep bombing off until I restart. Once I restsrt it will give that error again.

Run dxdiag and see if it gives any errors. Try it once just after startup and then again after a crash to compare.

Oh, and does this only happen in MW2?

I ran the dxdiag test after start up and everything was 100% didnt think to try it after a crash. I'll do that. And yes it's only happens in MW2.

Does it possibly have anything to do with the NAT setting on my router? Cause everytime I log onto MW2 to play multiplayer always says "NAT: Strict" so I enabled UPnP and forwarded all the required ports. Logged back into multiplays and said "NAT: Open" and then I played about 3 games and didn't crash once, where as 4 games before that it was crashing everytime.

This may sound silly but I had almost the same thing. Try and disable your AERO look in Windows 7 I have to assume you have 2 monitors. This wasnt an issue for my brother and 1 monitor but something odd happens when it has 2 monitors. Its worth a shot.

I'm only running 1 monitor (I wish I had 2) Ever since I got my NAT: Open it hasn't crashed. Seem's like the problem is fixed. I'll have a few games with my brother tonight, both playing on the same line, and see how it works out, cause thats normally when it bombed out, and gives an error.

If your problem has not been fixed yet try the next,
Have you downloaded the most recent GPU driver for Win 7?

It's been 100% ever since I opened NAT on my router. But yes I do have the latest GPU driver from Nvidia's website - 195.62 I think it is. And I've also got the latest directx installed.
